Vault Basics

Opening a vault

  • Open an existing vault when you already have notes on disk.
  • Create a new vault when you want a clean workspace and controlled plugin state.
  • Trust is per vault, not just per app install.

What to expect on first load

  • File indexing may take a while on large vaults.
  • Search, backlinks, tags, and outgoing links improve after indexing completes.
  • Some plugin views only become meaningful after the vault is fully loaded.

File types

Minion Mind is most useful when your vault includes a mix of:

  • Markdown notes
  • PDFs
  • Images
  • Canvas files
  • Excalidraw files if that plugin is enabled

Organizing for better AI context

  • Keep stable folders for long-lived topics.
  • Use clear file names.
  • Avoid stuffing unrelated notes into one file just because they are short.
  • Put reference material into predictable folders so agent prompts can target it cleanly.

When something looks wrong

Check these first:

  • The file exists on disk.
  • The file tree refreshed after the file was created or moved.
  • The vault is the one you think you opened.
  • A plugin is not hijacking the file type you expected to open normally.
